My name is Stacy and I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and a breastfeeding mom. I am also a perinatal nurse. For the past 12 years I have worked with moms and babies in multiple cities and settings, from high-risk obstetric care to a free-standing birth center. I am a happily-married Navy wife and mother to a wonderful daughter and newborn son.
I am a Registered Nurse, Certified in Inpatient Obstetrics. I attended Marquette University on a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship, and spent the next four-and-a-half years serving our country as a Navy nurse. During this time, I deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I received my Master’s degree in Nursing Education from Villanova University and have taught both in the classroom and clinical setting in the college and university environment.
My desire to become a Lactation Consultant (LC) stems from my own experiences with caring LCs with whom I have worked, and also from my personal experience with breastfeeding my daughter. The IBCLC certification is the perfect combination of my background in Perinatal Nursing and Education. Facilitating the local support group I created, BestMilk Bistro, has allowed me to work very closely with the breastfeeding dyad at the grassroots level. Forming BestMilk LLC seemed a natural extension of the work that I feel is my personal ministry—as both a way to define my dreams and as a conduit making my ideals a reality.
I am always looking to hone my expertise and gain new knowledge in order to assist mothers with their breastfeeding issues. A self-described lactivist, I want to advocate for and educate the world about the benefits of breastfeeding. Most importantly, I wish to provide support and encouragement for those who embark on this most incredible, precious journey with their children.
